What is the Max Speed in 5th Gear before the ICU Rev Limiter cuts in..?

Gee, I would have thought it would go a tad faster than that...

there is still power left to do so but we run out of gearing and bounce off the rev limiter at that speed.

Stock HP varies from bike to bike. Dyno reports we have seen over the years range from about 72 to 80.

Actual top speed is closer to 130 than 135. That is using a GPS or Speed-o-Healer equipped bike rather than the inaccurate stock speedo.

Oldman is correct again.

In 02 when the warrior first cruised onto the scene it was dyno'd by either cycleworld or motorcyclist (I get them both) at 76 hp 97 trq. I have seen hp a little lower and a little higher. usually troque is a tad higher. Most torque is 100 - 102 stock.

Remember HP is how fast you hit the wall.
Torque is how far you move the wall.

Yep. Add 200hp to the motor and it will still hit the very same rev limiter at the very same speed. It will just get there a lot faster.

has anyone actually hit the rev limiter in 5th gear? i've seen some lively discussions that say the warrior, in its stock form, runs out of steam before it hits that limiter in top gear. too much wind resistance and not enough top end power to get there unless going downhill or with a very strong tail wind. my personal experience agrees. despite my best efforts, i have never been able to get my warrior that fast. i've topped out right around 125, indicated (120 actual?). i dont know what the rpm was. i just know i was going really fast, sitting on topof that warrior, with a wall of 120 mph wind hitting my torso & jostling my helmet about, and trying to keep my feet from feeling like they were gonna fly off those forward controls. haha...

I hit it one time and one time alone. I was in TN on I-40 and had a pretty darn long downhill to help me along. The bike was loaded down with luggage for a week long trip and myself(which I am no featherweight). And the bike was not truly "stock" as it had a speedstar pipe, DIY BAK, and an ECU bump.

But other than that one time I results mimicked yours as in the Warrior just ran out of steam just before it would get to the limiter. It wasn't for a lack of trying however, my Warrior spent much of it's life above the 90-100mph zone.

Can't vouch for the top speed, as I have not had a chance to test that yet, but this is from Yamaha's Web site in the accessories section, comparing stock rear wheel dyno numbers to the stage IV kit.

Road Star Warrior Stage IV Competition Configuration

What it shows for stock is 80 hp and 102 ft/lbs torque. After the stage IV kit, it's 103hp and 121 tq.

Ima LARGE guy and on flat wide open road Ive hit 133-134 ish and the engine seemed to start missing a bit. There was SOOOO much engine/exhaust/wind noise it was very hard to tell. It is my best guess that I was at 134 as well, I know it was above 130 but it was dayum near impossible to see anything straight.

That one time and a missed shift into 2nd while trying to race a stratoliner is the only time Ive come close to hitting the rev limiter.

By the way, anyone know how accurate a Warrior speedometer is?

It reads about 5 mph fast. 135 indicted will be 130 actual.

I have run GPS numerous times on my Warrior.

My speedometer is roughly 9% fast. 50mph indicated is actually in the 45mph range. 100mph is in the 91mph actual.

I weigh 200lbs and my bike runs out of breathe around 115 actual (GPS) and 127ish indicated.

With the recent mods, Church V-Bak, PCV (downloaded map), AIS block-off and V&H bigshots w/ baffles it ran out of breathe at a GPS actual 126mph, over 130 indicated.

I would have to dig out an old post to check for sure but I had mine at just over 133 mph ( I think ) computed. That is with the Speedstar Stage IV kit and some minor headwork and the 33 tooth front pulley. That was measured by noting the rpm's and using a chart that someone put on here that showed speed taking into account engine speed and which pulley.
I was not topped out and did not have the faring on the bike.

I don't know when I'll get to try that again because the cops traffic detail around here are taking great joy in their new "stunting" law that at 30 mph over the limit allows them to confiscate your vehicle suspend your licence and levy a fine of over $2400 for first offence. Yikes !

If I may mention, back to the torque and horsepower numbers, you can calculate horsepower (since it is really a theoretical number anyway) by multiplying the peak torque (which is what a dyno can actually measure) times the rpm it is achieved at, and dividing by 5252. In the case of the Warrior, peak torque is rated at 104 @ 3600 rpm. So, 104 x 3600 = 374,000 / 5252 = 71.3 rear wheel hp.

Here is a description:

For a given torque and speed, the power may be calculated; the relationship between torque in foot-pounds, rotational speed in rpm and horsepower is:

Where P is power, τ is torque, and f is rotations per minute. The constant 5252 comes from (33,000 ft·lbf/min)/(2π rad/rev).

Cool discussion!

I dont know what kind of numbers my 02 warrior is pushing out, but i do know that i can get my bike up to the 130-135 range extremely easy with the feel of more power to go and variants of the road have never really mattered. My bike is completely stock as well, besides the exhaust. Ive alwasy felt like it would do more but never tried, maybe Ill have to go give it a shot and find out.

speedo shows a hair over 135..like 137ish...but i dont look at it too long.

ive got the speeding tickets to prove it..lol.
